But I’m Not A Sinner

When some people see the word “sinner” they think it is talking about someone who has done terrible things like murder or rape. Because they have not done these things, they think that they are not sinners.

However, the Bible takes a very different view of sin. Romans 3:23 says, “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” God created people in His image, to be as much like Him as it is possible for a finite being to be like an infinite God. Every time we fail to live up to that image – every time we think, speak or act differently from the way God does – we are falling short of His glory, and that is sin.

Now, let’s say that you fail to live up to God’s standards just 3 times a day – which would actually be a very high standard of righteousness. Add that up over a year, and you have over 1000 sins. Add that up over a lifetime of, say, 70 years, and you have 70,000 sins. Now consider that every sin is an act of treason against God, and that God has declared that all sin is punishable by death, and you can see that, if we try to stand on our own, we are in very hot water indeed.
